MILLER, James F. - Putnam

James F. Miller, 60, Zionsville, retired Indianapolis, fire captain, died Saturday in St. Vincent Hospital.

He was the director of fire prevention at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis 11 years, retiring in 1981. He was a captain in the Indianapolis Fire Department for 24 years, retiring in 1970.

A native of Coatesville, Ind., he had lived at Zionsville 21 years and was a member of Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, American Legion Post 79, Boone County Shrine Club and Order of the Eastern Star, Zionsville Chapter.

He was also a member of Faternal Order of Police Lodge 186, Murat Fireman's Club, Retired Firemen's Club, and a life member of Reserve Officers Association. He had been Chef de Gare of Forty and Eight Post 1318 and commander of Fireman's American Legion Post.

He was an Army Medical Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He retired in 1970 as a lieutenant colonel from the active Army reserves.

Services will be held at 10:30 a. m. Tuesday in Flanner and Buchanan Zionsville Mortuary, where friends may call from 5 p. m. to 9 p. m. today and 2 p. m. to 9 p. m. Monday.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Muriel Miller; two sons, Gerald Lee and Jeffrey Russell Miller; a daughter, Janet Sue Schultz, and his mother Nina Nichols.
